The Institute for Integrated Nutrition (IIN), is the largest nutrition school in the world. IIN teaches people how to be independent Health Coaches. A health coach is a supportive mentor who helps their clients feel their best through food and lifestyle changes and personalized one on one encouragement
One of the fundamentals that IIN teaches is the concept that Primary food trumps Secondary food. Primary food is everything that leads us to eat. This would include things such as mental state and physical state. The ‘whys’ of eating. Secondary food is the actual food that we consume. IIn teaches us that our bodies are designed to heal themselves, Given the proper Primary and Secondary nutrition and time, our bodies will heal. The goal of a health coach is to help clients put into practice healthier lifestyles.
This is done by coaching the client. One tool we can use is to help the client understand the Circle of Life. This circle consists of 12 major categories that make up our lifestyles.
- Social life
- Relationships
- Home environment
- Home cooking
- Physical activity
- Health
- Education
- Career
- Finances
- Creativity
- Spirituality
- Joy
When we align the circle of life we empower our clients to ‘fit out’, fitting out is when a person allows themselves to ve their own person regardless of what others think or say. While at IIN I learned many concepts. These concepts include; The power of consciousness, Synchronicity, Time management, Goal setting, Validity and intention, Self-care. I learned the six main theories that IIN offers. These theories are:
- 100 different dietary theory basics
- Primary food over secondary food
- Bio-individuality” We are all different.
- Crowding out. Adding food into our diets, crowding out less healthy foods.
- The body will heal itself
- Deconstruct cravings – find root causes.
